Wakonda-VanDoren Memorial Endowment

About Anita

The life of Anita VanDoren, a friend of many Wakonda campers and a valued staff member, was taken abruptly in a tragic plane accident March 9, 1996, off the coast of Florida. Anita had spent several summers working at Wakonda where she shared her future plans with many of us. As a tribute to Anita, members of the Wakonda family have established a scholarship fund in her memory with an annual award being granted to a North Warren High School student. To insure the continuations of the scholarship, various fund raisers are held throughout the camping season. In addition there are items such as note cards and photographs available for purchase in the camp store. All proceeds go directly to the scholarship fund. Scholarships are awarded to eligible graduating seniors who have been involved in athletics or who are seeking a higher education in criminal justice
